The Olympia Washington Kiwanis members and their friends have cost the Washington State taxpayers over $50 million dollars (so far), because of their willful ignorance of long term, merciless and well known, child abuse that occurred at the Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.
October 2006 note: This Olympia Kiwanis stuff is old news. I've left this information on the web, because I like the thought that someone will say to one of these Kiwanis friends or members: "Grandma, (Grandpa), are you still friends with those Olympia Kiwanians?"

Stormans Inc. history shows very dramatically the ability of a strong, local independent to serve the changing needs of the consumer, and that in fact is the driving belief behind the Stormans company today. We believe in:
Our long history of progressive supermarketing and innovation has brought to Thurston County some of the finest supermarkets you will ever find. Stormans was the first company in the region to accept debit and credit cards. We were the first in the region to offer scanning in 1977 and only the 200th store nationwide.
At our Food Pavilion store, we installed, as a test, a self scanning system where the customer could scan their own groceries. This was the only store West of Milwaukee Wisconsin and the 11th store in the nation to test this technology.
Stormans, Inc. is a locally owned company and its dedication to the community is clear. For over fifty years the Stormans family has been involved in serving the Olympia Community as leaders of numerous city and civic organizations including: The Olympia Planning Commission, Intercity Transit Commission, Civil Service Commission, Washington Center for the Performing Arts, Olympia Downtown Association, Olympia Chamber of Commerce, Olympia YMCA, Olympia Kiwanis, State Capital Historical Association, United Good Neighbors, Olympia Rotary, Thurston County Food Bank Board, Providence St. Peters Hospital Community Board, Leadership Thurston County and South Puget Sound Community College. In addition to service Stormans has financially supported hundreds of local organizations and groups.
Stormans, Inc. has been a environmental leader in the community as well. In 1992 , Stormans, Inc. received a proclamation from the Mayor for its recycling efforts and a recycling award from the Washington State Department of Ecology for the best commercial recycling pilot program.
In 1995 we received a Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling award again from the Washington State Department of Ecology and was honored with another proclamation from the mayor for being a leader in the community and the environment.
Stormans, Inc. is also well known for initiating a plastics recycling program for the community. The program started in 1991 and is still in full swing today. Stormans stores provide plastic collection for the community at staffed locations in their parking lots the last Saturday of every month. To date we have collected almost 300,000 pounds of plastic. Our stores have also been collecting newspaper and Reynolds Recycling has been operating in the Ralph's Thriftway parking lot for several years.
The Stormans have also been very involved in the grocery industry itself
by serving as Chairman of Thriftway stores, Chairman of Market Place stores,
Chairman of Associated Grocers Inc. and Chairman of the Washington State
Food Dealers Association. Members of the Stormans family have received many
industry awards including Washington State Grocer of the Year and the Spirit
of America Award from the National Grocers Association.
