Below are e-mails and my responses about my running for washington state treasurer on sept. 19, 2000.

The Olympia Washington Kiwanis members and their friends have cost the Washington State taxpayers over $50 million dollars (so far), because of their willful ignorance of long term, merciless and well known, child abuse that occurred at the Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.

October 2006 note: This Olympia Kiwanis stuff is old news. I've left this information on the web, because I like the thought that someone will say to one of these Kiwanis friends or members: "Grandma, (Grandpa), are you still friends with those Olympia Kiwanians?"

From the September 10, 2000 Seattle Times newspaper

From the September 19, 2000 Washington State Voters Phamplet

below was my annoying 200 word candidate statement that was put in the sept 19, 2000 washington state voters guide. the voters guide was sent to between 3 and 5 million washington state homes.

Treasurer Murphy and Sec State candidate Reed, were/are Olympia Kiwanians. Att Gen Gregoire and DSHS Rosemary Carr, were/are Olympia Kiwanis friends.
The Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch has cost taxpayers over $35 million (so far), because of the preventable child abuse that occurred there.
How does this happen? I think lawyers, judges, politicians, ect..., write, interpret and enforce the laws for their own benefit, and the sycophant media supports them. Well, duh!!
I have an excessive web site about this at www.lbloom.net or search "OKBR".
Now, some voter pandering. I'm pro-military. If D-Day had failed, it probably would have taken the Russians an extra two or three months to beat the Germans. I'm pro-family religious values. Catholic dogma, (divine law), says: outside the church there is no salvation, all birth control, except abstinence, is evil, and that having sex for just pleasure, (whether married or unmarried), is immoral. Abstinence should be taught in the schools and PTA.
Biblically challenged television preachers from Afghanistan to Spokane, predict that the anti-christ will be an Olympia Kiwanis woman. It's probably all nonsense. Have a nice day.

I ran for Wash St Treasurer against former Olympia Kiwanian, and current St. Treasurer Mike Murphy on Sept 19, 2000. I got (76,738) votes. I plan on running against a Thurston County Olympia Kiwanian in (2002). Below are some campaign letters, newspaper articles, e-mails and my responses.

Louis,
Saw your ad in the voters pamphlet, and I had to ask, if you are anti-choice, why are you running on the democratic ticket? Also, what does D-day have anything to do with anything. Don't you think you could come up with a better example for a strong defense? Also, since the Afgan government has outlawed televisions, I don't think that there are too many TV preachers from Afghanistan.
Sure, like you said on your web site, you get to rant, but you end up looking like a loon.

thanks for your e-mail. my reason for running and the voters guide statement goal was meant to amuse and/or irritate people, especially the olympia kiwanians. i'm anti-abortion, anti-gay lifestyle, anti-school vouchers, anti-prayer in schools, and anti-death penalty. i'm pro-unions, pro-women's rights, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control, and pro-inheritance taxes. i'm not a single issue person. i'll vote democrat, but i didn't care which party i ran with. my d-day quote was meant to make fun of the jingoistic cartoon history of european world war 2 that the american media promotes and most people believe. my catholic dogma quotes (that catholics are required to believe, and has "logic" behind it), was for the "decline of morals" crowd (ken starr, tom delay, bill bennett, ect..), who would be offended if someone questioned their morals and who dress up mountebanks, thugs, and thieves as exemplars of god on earth. i thought the t.v. preachers line was funny. louis bloom

Mr.Bloom,
I am a bit concerned that your statements regarding Catholic Dogma that you made in the Voter's Pamphlet may be misleading. From them, one could conclude that the Catholic Church teaches that all who are not Catholic are not saved and that Natural Family Planning is immoral. This is not the case. See Lumen Gentium 16 and The Catechism of the Catholic Church 847 regarding the former and Humanae Vitae and The Catechism of the Catholic Church 2360-2372 particularly 2370 regarding the latter. You also may be interested in ccli.org
As Catholics we must be careful not to quote things out of context. We certainly wouldn't want to mislead others.
Sincerely,
Lara ------, B.A. Theology

lara: thanks for your e-mail. i was blunt and sparse about catholic dogma in the voters guide statement, (i only got 200 words). i recognize that when any religion gets in a dogma or semantic bind, they turn to the catch all "thru god, all things are possible". but it would be misleading and sinful to imply that the catholic church believes one religion is as good as another. i also realize that nfp is birth control, but it is totally based on abstinence. i put links about my catholic dogma quotes on my web page at:
http://lbloom.net/okvgssalvation.html

i'm no theologian, but isn't catholic dogma pretty clear on these points?

p. 23 of the WA State voters pamphlet contains your tongue-in-cheek statement. You should be angling for an ambassador's post (you're so diplomatic!) instead of a lowly State Treasurer's job. Your voter pandering is probably the best send up I've ever read in this publication. You've offended just about everybody--except me. You've got my vote. PMT

I spent much of Monday night reading the Voters Pamphlet, in preparation for voting on Tuesday. I read your submittal. My first thought was that this guy wants to see himself in print and is klujing up our precious democratic voting process. To be fair, I decided to take a look at your "excessive" website before writing this email. Now I think that you have a pet issue, want to see yourself in print and are klujing up our precious democratic voting process.
You are self-indulgently exploiting the voting process by submitting your pap for publication in a pamphlet whose purpose is to inform voters of the viable candidates' qualifications, backgrounds and positions on the issues. Your text appears to not fulfill any of these purposes. Yes, you have the right to run for any office. Citizens also have responsibilities. I find your views on politicians, the media, D-Day, Russians, Catholic dogma, abstinence, sex, Afghanistan preachers, the Anti-Christ and the Kiwanis Club irrelevant to the office of state treasurer and, simply, irrelevant.
Stop abusing Washington's voting process.

thanks for your e-mail. my voters guide statement goal was meant to amuse and irritate people, especially the olympia kiwanians. it seems to me that all the thurston county residents who knew about the Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch consider themselves responsible citizens. if some responsible citizen, like mike murphy, would have raised their voice, maybe, those orphans and powerless children at the OKBR, could have had a better life. you're right about exploiting the voting process, but did washington state need another candidate in the voters guide, who said they want to lower taxes and save the salmon? louis bloom

Sir,
I recently read your part of the voters pamphlet. I am scared to think someone with your right wing extremist views could be in control in any branch of Government. Remember seperation of Church and State? i feel sorry for your children, and especially your wife, who i'm sure is feeling very unsatisfied in bed. (though she is afraid to admit it even to herself in fear that GOD will send her to Hell) If GOD didn't intend for us to enjoy sex, he wouldn't have made it feel good in the first place. have fun living life in fear and guilt, wishing your hell on the rest of us.
Signed,
A concerned citizen

FORGET THE TRILATERAL COMMISSION ... THIS CONSPIRACY IS EVEN BETTER!!
One of the strangest candidates on the ballot today is Louis Bloom (D-WA), a candidate for State Treasurer. Bloom -- who admits he has no shot at defeating incumbent Mike Murphy (D) in the primary -- is using his campaign to "rant" (Bloom's word) about a child molestation cover-up conspiracy ... masterminded by the Kiwanis Club of Olympia, Washington. "My 'axe to grind' is the Olympia Washington Kiwanians and the child abuse they allowed," he explains on his campaign web site. In his official candidate statement published in state voter guides, Bloom writes that he is "pro-family religious values ... and that having sex for just pleasure (whether married or unmarried) is immoral." He then concludes his official statement with: "Biblically challenged television preachers from Afghanistan to Spokane predict that the anti-Christ will be an Olympia Kiwanis woman. It's probably all nonsense. Have a nice day." Huh?
See for yourself at Bloom's unusual campaign site at http://www.lbloom.net/

i figured that there would be very few people in washington state who would know or believe that the russians could and basically did beat the germans in world war 2 by themselves. i was happy to get the following letter from michael in vancouver, washington.

September 3, 2000
Dear Mr. Bloom:
Enclosed is a one dollar campaign contribution.
I was impressed by your campaign statement in the voter pamphlet and by your web site.
I too, an working for the Democratic Party. I hope to reassemble our traditional party coalition: abortion-industry workers, sky-is-falling-in enviromentalists, bilingualists, illegal immigrants, ideologically homeless ex-communists, union bosses, government contractors, the Chinese Liberation Army, the sexually disoriented, educrats, trial lawyers, the willing poor, drug addicts, old-sin New Age atheists, race hustlers, members of the black caucus, professional victims, punk musicians, condom manufacturers, members of NAMBLA, and dead people buried near Chicago.
I am also pro-military, and think that your "extra two or three months" is about right. The "syncophant media" has cooperated with the rest of our country to create a comic-book history of that war. This is called "self-censorship." Biblically-challenged television preachers and "reality" TV have filled the void. Duh!
Seriously, a moment of silence for the 26 million Soviets who gave their lives at Kursk, Kharkov, Stalingrad, and on the banks of the Dneiper, so that Americans could usurp credit for their sacrifice.
Another moment of silence for those orphans and powerless children throughout the world who are/have been oppressed and exploited.
Thank you for speaking out on the Boys Ranch.
Sincerely,
Michael --------

Clicking on the above picture will take you to a page about the webmaster.

There were many obvious and long-term warnings about the 1970-94 child abusing Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.

  • DSHS knew since at least 1977.
  • The OKBR staff certainly knew.
  • The abused kids told staff, schools, counselors, police, caseworkers, therapists, ect.., about their abuse at the OKBR, but nobody investigated.
  • Olympia Police Chief Wurner came to an Olympia Kiwanis meeting in 1986 and told the Kiwanis about the troubles at the OKBR. Chief Wurner was ignored. Maybe he should have done more, but he probably wanted to keep his job.
  • It was well know by the Thurston County courts. These kids were constantly in and out of the Thurston County legal system.
  • The OKBR was written about in the Kiwanis Komments newsletters, and the Kiwanis Board Ranch minutes.
  • All the OKBR Board Members had a legal oversight of the OKBR.
  • Were all Olympia Kiwanis Attorneys & Judges and/or Politicians uninformed?
  • It's amazing how blissfully ignorant some people were about the OKBR. You can read about their guiltlessness in some of their Washington State Patrol and Office of Special Investigation statements.
  • Here's Wa St Patrol Olympia Kiwanis member lists of 1987, 1990, 1994
  • Here is a 49 page index of 5,223 pages of documents that the WSP collected about the OKBR. Anybody can order any of those public documents by following the instructions on that page.
  • The OKBR sent kids for weekend visits to child abusers who donated land to the Kiwanis. The Kiwanians sold the land in 1993 for $125,000.
  • Can the Olympian Newspaper claim ignorance?
