The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission provides training for law
enforcement, corrections and other public safety professionals in Washington State. Although the
majority of the training takes place at the Burien facility, the Commission also works with local
jurisdictions to develop quality training throughout the state.
The Commission consists of 14 members, 11 of whom are appointed by the Governor. The
remaining three members are appointed by the Attorney General, the Chief of the State Patrol
and the special agent in charge of the Seattle office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The
Commission is responsible for adopting rules and regulations and establishing standards for the
training of criminal justice personnel. It also appoints the Commission’s Executive Director.
The fiscal year 2005-07 budget is approximately $18.6 million and primarily funded by the Public
Safety Education Account. Fiscal year 2006 revenues were approximately $300,000. The
primary source of revenue is charges for services. The Commission has 40 employees to
administer and conduct the activities of the Commission. The Administration and Fiscal offices
are located in Lacey.
