The State of Washington Patrol investigated the Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.

The Olympia Washington Kiwanis members and their friends have cost the State of Washington taxpayers over $50 million dollars (so far), because of their willful ignorance of long term, merciless and well known, child abuse that occurred at the Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.

Here's a statement that DSHS Financial Recovery person Jonell Blatt gave to the DSHS Office of Special Investigations on 1/12/95 about her involvement with the OKBR.

Kiwanis member Gary Bloomfield gave a statement to the Wash. St. Patrol on December 11, 1995 about his involvement with the OKBR. He mentioned Judge Stilz unfavorablely. He said the Kiwanians were "wheeler dealers", "they'd get involved in business deals, get stung, and somehow wrangle out of it."

Here's Olympia city prosecutor Reiko Callners statement that she gave about the OKBR to the State of Washington Patrol on Nov. 17, 1995. Reiko Callner said the she thought that "Sutherland would tell his deputy prosecutors to drop charges on local politicians' relatives" and said that Sutherland "covered up the truth".

Officer Gassett said that she thinks Judge Tom McPhee, prosecutor Pat Sutherland, and then deputy prosecutor and now Judge Gary Tabor, conspired to deny her a search warrent for the O.K.B.R.

Here's a statement that former DSHS head Les James gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on Dec. 13, 1995 about the OKBR. Les James said the children may have "fabricated" statements to get the staff in trouble.

Here's a statement that former Assistant Attorney General Chris Jennings gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on Jananuary 30, 1996 about the OKBR. Chris Jennings said that D.S.H.S let the $79,000 to $120,000 Wa. St. overpayment to the O.K.B.R. slide, because the "cost of litigation might exceed that", and the Att. Gen. office was too busy.

Here's a statement that Kiwanis member and Assis. Att. Gen. Jeff Lane gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on December 27, 1995 about his involvement with the OKBR. Attorney and OKBR board member Jeff Lane said that he "couldn't believe the reports" of what was going on at the OKBR.

Here's a statement Thurston County Juvenile Court Commissioner Scott Neilson gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on Nov. 16, 1995 about the OKBR. Scott Nielson said he suspected that "Kiwanis members put pressure on law enforcement agencies and DSHS".

Here's a statement that juvenile court administrator for Thurston County since Sept. 1984, Corinne Newman gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on Nov. 16, 1995, about her involvement with the OKBR. She started collecting documents about the OKBR in 1986 and was concerned before 1986.

OKBR consultant Valerie Noll gave a statement to the DSHS Office of Special Investigation on December 7, 1994. Valerie said that the OKBR kids didn't tell staff, schools, counselors, police, caseworkers, therapists, ect.. about their abuse at the OKBR. Investigator Martin Dickson told Valerie that the kids did tell people, but nobody investigated. Valerie said that was new information to her.

Here's the statement that Thurston County Prosecutor Jim Powers gave to the State of Washington Patrol about the OKBR on November 16, 1995. Deputy Prosecutor Powers was "anxious".

Here's a statement that Jane Sands (widow of former Dep. Pros. and Kiwanis member Bryan Fischnaller) gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on November 27, 1995 about her knowledge about the OKBR.

Here's the statement that Kiwanis member Bob Van Schoorl made to the Wa. St. Patrol on Nov. 21, 1995, about his involvement with the Olympia Kiwanis Board Ranch. Robert Van Schoorl said that Don Ernst, Wayne Bishop, Tom Van Woerden, Virgil Clarkson, and Jeff Lane kept him in the dark about the OKBR.

Here's a statement that former dept. pros. and now Thurston Judge Gary Tabor gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on December 27, 1995 about his involvement with the OKBR. Gary Tabor said that "the attorney for the kids milked the system".

Here's a statement that former DSHS head Dick Thompson gave to the Wash. St. Patrol on December 20, 1995 about his involvement with the OKBR. Dick Thompson said that his personal attorney was Olympia Kiwanis member George Darkenwald.

Here's the statement that Olympia Police Chief John Wurner made to the Wa. St. Patrol on Nov. 17, 1995, about his involvement with the Olympia Kiwanis Board Ranch. John Wurner said that Thurston County Prosecutor Patrick Sutherland & Deputy Prosecutor Gary Tabor gave "lame excuses" for not prosecuting the OKBR people.

There were many obvious and long-term warnings about the 1970-94 child abusing Olympia Kiwanis Boys Ranch.

  • DSHS knew since at least 1977.
  • The OKBR staff certainly knew.
  • The abused kids told staff, schools, counselors, police, caseworkers, therapists, ect.., about their abuse at the OKBR, but nobody investigated.
  • Olympia Police Chief Wurner came to an Olympia Kiwanis meeting in 1986 and told the Kiwanis about the troubles at the OKBR. Chief Wurner was ignored. Maybe he should have done more, but he probably wanted to keep his job.
  • It was well know by the Thurston County courts. These kids were constantly in and out of the Thurston County legal system.
  • The OKBR was written about in the Kiwanis Komments newsletters, and the Kiwanis Board Ranch minutes.
  • All the OKBR Board Members had a legal oversight of the OKBR.
  • Were all Olympia Kiwanis Attorneys & Judges and/or Politicians uninformed?

  • The OKBR sent kids for weekend visits to child abusers who donated land to the Kiwanis. The Kiwanians sold the land in 1993 for $125,000.
