Douglas County was incorporated in 1883. It currently has a population of approximately 36,300.
Agriculture, health care, retail trade services and tourism are the main sources of revenue for the
area. The County is governed by three elected Commissioners and five independent elected
administrative offices of Treasurer, Auditor, Assessor, Sheriff and Prosecuting Attorney. The
County has $2.1 billion of assessed property value and it operates on a $46 million annual
budget. Its 330 employees provide an array of services including police, road maintenance,
planning and zoning, parks and recreation, judicial administration, health and social services.
