Public Utility District No.1 of Whatcom County has water, electric and telecommunications service
authority in Whatcom County. Its headquarters are located near the city of Ferndale. Three
elected Commissioners govern the District, each serving a six-year term.
The District’s operating expenses were $11,174,748 in 2005. The District has 18 employees and
a customer base of 14 heavy industrial customers, 38 light industrial, 36 irrigation and one electric
customer.
The District provides these services directly or through contracts.
