San Juan County is Washington’s smallest county located on San Juan Island, the most populous of its 176 named islands and reefs. The County serves approximately 15,000 citizens and hosts many vacationers. An array of services are provided by the County including public safety, District and Superior Court administration, road construction and maintenance, health and social services, solid waste disposal, land use planning, permitting, recreation and youth services. A new County Home Rule Charter and its first amendment were approved by the voters of the County on November 8, 2005. This changed the legislative branch structure by increasing its three-member Board of Commissioner’s to a six-member County Council. Three new members began serving the County in January 2007, shortly after the November 2006 election. Through the Charter, the Council selected and appointed a County Administrator who began serving in July 2006. The County employed approximately 240 staff and operated on a General Fund budget of $12 million.

Here's the freedom of information request letter I sent to the Lincoln County.

Here's a letter I got from San Juan County where they say they'll need more time to research my request. They are apparently going to try to find out the port, city, and other local employees names and salaries. I didn't ask for that, but I'll see what they come up with. (6/26 note: San Juan County and apparently all counties collect money for all the taxing districts, ports, fire department, water districts, ect..., and they may disperse the money to those taxing districts. I still don't understand it all, but I'm learning.)

Here's a letter I got from San Juan County when they sent all the documents.

Here's a letter I sent to San Juan County plus the $50 check to them. I still don't understand it all, but I'm learning.)
