The Steptoe School District serves approximately 40 students in Whitman County. The five- member elected Board of Directors has oversight responsibility for the District and appoints a Superintendent who is responsible for the day-to-day operations. The District operated on an annual budget of approximately $500,000. During the audit period, the District had 12 employees, four of whom were teachers of students in kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition, the District operates a day-care center located in the same building.
